小贝在妈妈肚子里动作过猛，闹得妈妈受不了，就借小贝爸的大手掌放在肚子上，小贝于是安静下来。好一会都没啥动静，小贝妈说小贝怕你，每次你把手放在上面她就不动了。小贝爸就对着小贝妈的肚子说：“小贝呀，这是爸爸，不用怕咧。。。来小贝，踢妈妈一脚”才说完，贴在大肚子上的手掌就感受到咕咚一个无影脚，同时小贝妈也痛苦的叫了声“哎哟”。

赵哥和Niki从滑铁卢过来玩, 出发前打电话说Hawking也要跟来唐人街吃中国菜, 忙乎了一阵子找餐馆, 过了一个小时又说天气太热怕老人家受不了不来了, 唉, 本来想占便宜吃顿高级菜呢, 还是没福气.

真是热, 喝完茶去湖心岛暴晒, 幸好有很多喷雾的水池, 站在水烟里打个半湿出来几分钟就干了, 再湿再晒, 很好玩.

晒了一天, 刚发现两边颧骨上长蝴蝶斑啦!

今天早上去做唐筛第二次血检, 抽了我足足9管血, 估计有100CC了. 结果要等一个礼拜出来, 我的宝宝一定会健健康康的!
还听了胎心, 今天宝宝在左边玩, 一切都好!

满12周了, 下午去做唐筛初检, 又可以去看宝宝了! 宝宝长大不少, 今天有头臀长5.5cm, 双顶径2.0cm, NT1.5mm, 结果不错! 爸爸妈妈都很开心!
这次宝宝好象在睡觉, 爸爸说看到小人儿不动了, 好紧张, 不象上次手舞足蹈的活泼样子, 看到闪闪的心跳才松口气. B超师按肚皮的时候, 它就挥小手挡一下, 好象睡觉被吵到了不耐烦的样子。不过妈妈自己倒没有太担心, 因为经常还有干呕和子宫拉扯的感觉, 有时还会感觉到小肚子里有隐隐约约的蠕动, 所以觉得宝宝应该是好好的.

好了下次B超是一个多月以后了, 到时候就可以看是男宝女宝了。宝爸宝娘对着照片研究了半天, 觉得宝宝长得比较象爸爸!

医院打来电话4月29号约见OB.

这两天反应有点反复无常, 有时候觉得全身轻松得象没事儿一样，以为早孕反应就快要结束了呢, 结果晚上就吐了。肚子也是时瘪时涨。有反应不舒服，没反应又精神紧张。

还有两周课就结束了, 坚持~

家庭医生把我的月经日期写错了, 今天被叫去做NT(胎儿颈部透明带厚度, 用来诊断染色体缺陷), 结果发现来早了, 但是还是简单地测量了一下胎儿的大小, 宝宝31mm大, 有心跳, 比上次60天测的宝宝年龄又早了一天, 今天满10周, YCQ又提前了一天, 10月3号, 看来宝宝长得挺健康的, 真开心。

在屏幕上看到宝宝长大了, 后脑勺圆圆的, 脖子长出来了, 脑袋和身体已经区分得很明显, 更象一个小胎儿了, 不象十天前侧面看象个小豌豆一样。宝宝的手脚在不停地划动, 胸前的小心脏象小星星一样闪啊闪的, 我的宝宝真可爱呀！怎么看都看不够！谢谢the almighty, 请继续照顾我的宝贝!

今天带小贝去Oakville一个HIFI发烧友家玩. 晚上回来称称体重65KG. 如果不收腹的话肚子鼓鼓硬硬硬, 象传说4,5个月的样子. 除了屁股疼, 今天胃口不错. 吃了两小块pizza和六七个鸡翅(很小).

got ultrasound result today. After waited more than 1 hour I was called into a small room to wait for Dr. Shi. I peeked into the report, and saw a heartrate number. I was so much reliefed and called JM to tell him the news. everything is good with my BB. BB was one day bigger than i expected. So I'm having he/she 9 weeks now and he/she is about 2.5cm. :)

昨天去做了第一次ultrasound. 看到了一个有小手小脚的小人儿。有没有心跳技师也不告诉我, 说结果要等五天会到家庭医生那儿。真是揪心。
感觉很奇怪，好象还是不敢相信是真的一样，这个小东西偷偷摸摸地在我肚子里长大, 但是和它又说不上话, 这个东西真的在我肚子里吗？是活的吗？将来会跳出来，看着我, 和我吵架吗？

JM Demo做得不顺, 在家发脾气。想去安慰他, 反而越说让他越心烦。把键盘都摔坏了, 还说要跳楼。PP骂了他几句。又说我说得太多了。

很奇怪的一部电影，怪异、杂乱，仿佛糅合了几种类型的电影元素，初看时有点教人费疑猜，正如无法分清那究竟是虚构还是真实的人或者人生？

“上帝”是个疯狂的女作家，沉溺于自己的幻想中不可自拔，现实的世界悲她涂抹了奇幻的色彩，而现实出亦真亦幻的虚构实境。而那个刻板的人，每天按部就班的生活，全然不知自己的命运只系于一张张白纸黑字之间。

直到某天，他听到那个朗读般自语的声音，置身事外而又不带感情的叙述着他的生活，于是知道了自己不可逃避的命运，于是他改变，离开了自己以往一成不变的模式，寻找新的生活，一个逃税的年轻女郎，一块蘸了牛奶的曲奇饼干，爱情，令他新生！

而女作家只是不断的想着，如何让纸上的他在一个恰当的时候以一个合理的方式死去。他经过种种努力后，知道自己是不能摆脱既定的命运，选择了坦然面对，接受！而此时的命运，却发生了意想不到的转机…………，“上帝”又是为了“谁”而改变？

想来这部作品是艾玛汤普森的即兴小品，才女创作遇到瓶颈，和片中那个神经质的女作家一样，铺陈下来的故事，也是个自我排解的过程，这，也许可以解释电影有些混乱的原因！所谓瓶颈，要么才思枯竭，要么各种念头纷至沓来，让人茫然无措。艾玛汤普森的显然不会是前者，于是就有了这样一部电影，随心所至的叙述之后，看似杂芜，至于经过细细梳理一下，所有的一切也就脉络分明了。

心念所动，有时候就是莫明其妙的，其实一定是有缘由的，人一时的迷惘不清，只是因为自己没有离开自己更远一点而已！

《严肃的男人》：神以万物为刍狗

有说《严肃的男人》参照了《圣经》旧约中的《约伯》。在《约伯》这个故事中，约伯一生对神忠贞，却受撒旦的陷害而落入悲苦之境地。他不明白何以自己一生对神信仰，却得不到神公平的对待，因此与三个友人展开了辨论。最后神出现在旋风之中，作出了回答。《严肃的男人》在故事框架上与《约伯》十分相似：主人翁同样受命运不公平的待遇，Larry与三个拉拜（rabbi，犹太宗教师）的问答如同约伯与三个友人的辨论，而剧终时出现的旋风更是对应着《约伯》中神出现时的旋风。与《约伯》中强调神的全能相比，科恩兄弟在《严肃的男人》中探讨的更多是生命的不确定和对生命的态度，但对神还是同样抱着敬畏的态度。片首打出：“Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.-Rashi”，这位Rashi是中世纪一位著名的法国拉拜。以我的理解，翻成中文的话，这句话的意思该是：以平常心来迎接一切发生在你身上的事情。粗浅地说，平常心就是不为好事得意忘形，也不为坏事过于悲观的心态；让已发生的发生，始终保持不亢不卑的平静姿态，不要过分执着。我想这句话是为电影点题的，表达了科恩兄弟对生命豁达超然的看法，隐隐有生亦何欢，死亦何悲的意味。科恩兄弟在正片开始以前拍了一个犹太寓言，关于一对夫妇和一个“dybbuk”的奇遇。犹太民间故事中，“dybbuk”是指一个被冤魂佔具了的尸体，和中国借尸还魂的说法相似。我相当喜欢这一段：当老妇拿着冰锉出场时，有一种危机逼近的感觉。果不其然，那冰锉最后成了凶器。又，小屋中忽明忽暗的火光为画面增加了不安感，加上不徐不急的镜头运动，带出了凝重的气氛。寓言的其中寓意是什么呢？我的解读是，那到访的老人既是拉拜又是死而复生的“dybbuk”，是代表一种超人、超自然的力量，而面对这力量时，丈夫代表相应产生的善的业力，妻子则代表相应产生的恶的业力，而这对夫妻象征人的善恶两面，是善是恶，终究一念之差。另外，那老拉拜在拜访之前和之后到底是生还是死呢，电影始终没有给出一个确定的答案，仿佛是部真人版的“薛定谔之猫”，也象是对命运的指涉，人的认知能力以外的未知之数。科恩兄弟的电影一直以来都有一个母题，那母题就是无常。在他们电影中出现的黑色与荒诞，完全是由无常这个观念架设出来的。主人翁可能有一个宏大的计划，但往往被一些微不足道或漠不相干的人，或是阴差阳错的事件地导致功败垂成，甚至于命丧黄泉。所有的理想都敌不过一次的随机事件，让所有的努力因而付诸流水，以此调动观众幸灾乐祸的心理，形成了所谓的黑色幽默。在《严肃的男人》里，科恩兄弟引用了两个量子力学上的理论来这借喻生命的无常，一个是“薛定谔的猫”，另一个是“（海森堡）测不准原理”。如果从物理上来解释这两个理论，恐怕三言两语难以说清。简单地从哲学的意义来说，就是事物在未被感知或检测以前是一片混沌的状态，只有在被感知或检测之后，其状态才能被确定。这颇有点王阳明的意思：你未看此花时，此花与汝心同归于寂，你来看此花时，则此花颜色一时明白起来。在科恩兄弟电影中，生命常常都是在一片混沌的状态中，不分善恶好坏，个人作出的决定几乎无关大局。生命变成后来的样子，往往是为其他随机性事件所决定。所以如何为生命的价值定位，这就成为了《严肃的男人》的主要命题。如何定义“严肃的男人”？在电影中，这位严肃的男人叫Larry，他一直都克尽己任地养妻活儿，尽忠职守。在Larry的眼中，严肃的男人就是扮演好在社会中每一个角色的男人。然而，这样的认真并没有为他带来快乐，反而给他带来了不忠的妻子、不孝的儿女、不义的朋友、不幸的兄弟、不稳的经济和不廉的学生。他一直以来都安份守己，用他的话来说，就是“我啥都没做（I haven’t done anything.）。”当妻子要和他离婚时他这么说，当唱片公司的职员要他付钱时他这么说，当上司要他附交其他文件支持他的教授一职时他这么说，但似乎“啥都没做”还是会出错。在这种情形之下，他心中产生了怨怼。作为一个严肃的男人，他要弄清楚每个事件背后的意义，为什么没做错事却要承担这些后果？他把这些都视作了神的旨意，但他却无法了解其中的意义。于是，他找上了拉拜。第一个年轻的拉拜要他从一个新的角度来看事物，第二个中年的拉拜对他说了一个无法解释又不了了之的神迹，并要他顺其自然，任其来去。但严肃的Larry对这些说法都不以为然，认定了每个迷团之后一定有一个答案。于是，他死心不息地求见传说中最有智慧的老拉拜。讽刺的是，老拉拜已老得不能再思考了，并以“忙于思考”的籍口拒见了他。直到最后，Larry还是没得到他想要的答案。以佛家的说法是，Larry的烦恼其实是来自其执心太重，对于是非过于执着。无论是年轻拉拜还是中年的拉拜的建议都没有错，只要Larry肯以一个新的角度来思考或者凡事顺其自然，他的苦恼就会减轻许多。我觉得科恩兄弟讲这个故事，其实就是带着这个意思，而且紧扣着片首的那句摘录：“Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.” Larry的怨怼来自他的执心，他愈是觉得神亏欠他答案，他的怨怼就愈深，最终让他迷失了自己。Larry一生严肃（serious），却屡受命运的作弄。备受挫折以后，是否还要继续严肃下去呢？好人是否还要做到底呢？我觉得科恩兄弟给了一个肯定的答案。在Larry决定受贿的那瞬间，就接到了主诊医生的电话，似乎有个更坏的消息要告诉他，这很有一种惩罚寓意。回到电影的命题：如何为生命的价值定位？这点上，Larry没有答案，科恩兄弟似乎没有给出答案。不说Larry得不到命运合理的对待，Sy勾搭了Larry的老婆，死后却被称作是严肃的男人；Larry的儿子吸食大麻，最后还是顺利完成了洗礼；老拉拜已老得不能思考，却还被人称颂；Larry一直抱怨着自己的不幸，但比起他的兄弟他拥有的太多了；这些不合理的事都似乎合理地存在着。也许真的需要以一颗平常心去面对人事，并一直抱持向善的信仰。

昨晚RF很疼，又没睡好觉。
早晨很矜持地慢慢去验血，回来又睡到11点钟，接到医院的电话HCG才16.7，说是low pregnancy, 不能确定是否HY, 心里一沉，不会吧，怎么这么倒霉。赶紧去又用了一支clearblue，果不然，昨天还是淡淡的加号，今天竖线微弱得要很吃力才能看见。在网上查第29天的平均值是64，这也差得太多了！
怎么会这样？！又来一次生化？！
傍晚一起出去吃晚餐。JM很体贴地安慰我，心里好受一点，放松心情，积极备战。

昨晚翻来覆去睡不着，觉得这次非常非常地再ready不过地ready，把各位神灵都打点了个遍。又小心地恳求：都说母子一条心，可怜妈苦苦的盼子心吧，这么大条的神经都给折腾得swing了，宝宝如果着床了，please给妈个sign... 仔细揣摸了半天好象有点隐约的抽抽，又好像没有，有点失望。又觉得自己太心急，怕烦了宝贝，赶紧道歉。JM呼噜打得震天响，拧啊推啊都不管用，气得只好自己抱着被子到外面沙发上睡。
然后脚就开始发热，烫得我根本没法睡，肚子又饿，起来煎了两个蛋一根肠（哈哈）咸得我直喝水。上网乱查，有人说脚热是好孕的迹象。
一直折腾到四点多，听到卧室里的动静好象消停了，钻回去睡，胡思乱想给BB起名字，有的满意有的不满意，改来改去，终于昏昏睡去。
早晨梦见怀孕了，但是有人猛按我的肚子，在梦里大叫一声惊醒，赶紧量体温，还是高温。
10点起来放药，回去躺到11点多。起床后终于按耐不住出门买了clearblue，回家一屁股坐在马桶上。横线很快地弥漫显示出来了，竖线没有动静，过了半分钟，浅浅的但是非常清楚的竖线出现了。。。
给医生打电话，明天可以去做官方测试。
前几天妈和嫂子都信心满满的，嫂子肯定地说：“你要相信prayer的力量！” 嘿！

Butter Chicken

我们都喜欢吃Butter Chicken, 在网上搜索了一下做法，综合出我的修订版：

材料：
鸡块，番茄丁，洋葱末，姜蒜末，辣椒粉，孜然粉，肉桂粉，ketchup, 柠檬， Garam Masala(印度五香粉） Plain Yogurt, Cream

过程：
1.把鸡块用盐，胡椒粉腌一个小时。
2.热锅放油，把鸡块炒成金黄色，盛出。
3.放入黄油，融化后放洋葱丁，肉桂粉，炒透明后放姜蒜末，辣椒粉，孜然粉，柠檬汁， Garam Masala(印度五香粉）
4.放番茄丁，炒到软烂，加盐和胡椒粉调味。
5.放ketchup, cream, yogurt（or sour cream), 焖5分钟。（可以勾兑点芡汁)
6.放入鸡块再焖20分钟
盛出来，撒点香菜，好了！和米饭，馕一起吃，放点土豆进去一起焖也会不错！

看完牙医赶着去见Dr.B.R。市中心繁华地区顶楼分支众多的一个大Lab，经历文雅端庄的女医生不动声色的非礼之后，被小护士带着逐一去预约繁琐的程序，抽了五六支血，抱着一叠表格出来，五月的风煦暖温柔，阳光也来抚慰。

赶了一天的路，去唐人街喝茶歇脚，牙齿酸弱，牛百叶咬不动，只喝了一碗白粥，剩下的都打包带走。

Nick Sung has been posting a series about selfimproving. Found it very nice and I collect them here:

"i'm not going to pretend that i know terribly much about anything, but i thought that i might say a few words on education. i've received emails asking how to improve the quality of one's work; let me try to summarize the advice i tend to give. most of it is pretty general—they're truisms, but not as easy and esoteric as they sound: no, i mean everything here to be practical advice which can be acted upon. the general call is to open your eyes, use your faculties to the best of your abilities and to put your money where your mouth is; cultivate opinions, knowledge, skills and experience. it's the best advice i have.

1 cultivate good taste
this is primary. your good taste, your capacity to judge, will define your notion of quality—what you decide to be 'good enough'. who you become and what you make will be informed by what you accept; what you're ignorant of, soft on; what you uphold, what you're pigheaded about or insightful or stupid or safe or playful or careful about. you are what you surround yourself by, so you'd better make sure it's good stuff. and as you and your tastes and opinions change, your goals and ambitions, and ideas of what is good and what is bad and what is inbetween will change too. so establish standards, test their limits, test your limits, and encourage their growth. expand, for goodness's sake, and exercise the very special human powers of insight & judgement.

2 build a foundation
foundation is all there is. the basics are your bedrock. need to know something? learn it. there is no one route to wisdom or experience; focus, find insight, and weave a thick blanket of knowledge and ideas. study study study, work work work, and mediate yourself. your understanding and facilities are all you'll have to fall back on for the rest of your life, so you'd better get to improving them, and you'd better not stop. what you're a master of and what you're not ain't nobody's business but your own. it's all within your grasp if you have the commitment to master the basics.

3 fight to make the best of things
good bad ugly, all situations are useful as supports and calls to arms; foils and catalysts. life is full of positive, valuable lessons if you look for them, which is what they mean when they say to learn through experience. in my life i've been partnered, alone, mismanaged, given grace, demoted, promoted, apprenticed, applauded, misunderstood, perfectly in sync, in the lead, trailing behind, continuously working and unemployed and it was all great, and i'm all grateful, and every experience no matter how small or banal or painful has helped me mature. life doesn't always make it easy, but it offers to keep you honest. go get some living in you.

4 be sincere
it's gotta come from here (patting his chest) if you want to make something meaningful to yourself and to others, if you want to make something that resonates; it's gotta be real. i mean, that's the point, right? whatever it is you're doing, try your best to make it mean something to you—find your excitement in things; be passionate and excited and it'll translate. figure out what you've got to give to the world. and then, when you get to work, give it some love.

5 ask questions
find insight—this is how you learn. entertain curiosity and respond to need and you'll figure things out. engage! put things to scrutiny, get to their heart and be thorough, dammit. follow things all the way through; look way down the line. don't just accept any old answers; this is a layered, complex, paradoxical, miraculous, evolving world that you need to be responding to—look at where you're narrow or blind or conservative or wanting and open yourself up: expand. learn everything! nothing beats honest inquiry. if you put your pride aside and ask the right questions, you'll get the right answers.

6 find confidence
it's absolutely vital. find your strength; retain your integrity; stand for what you believe in and remember that you are a human being; no loss is the definitive measure of your person; it is never the end of the world, and you are never unable to adapt and grow. keep going, as robert henri and george bernard shaw and our good friend augie march tell us; everything depends on those who keep going. it's a life of trials and they aren't all going to be easy. but never forget that you'll end up okay; you're just in the messy second act.

7 focus and discipline
nothing is going to get done until you do it, so sit down and get to work! organize yourself, always have a gameplan and work systematically, diligently; do one thing at a time. and do things with intensity! twyla tharp talks about habit, animators about trusting the process; in both cases it's the same: do whatever necessary to get into the zone and then respect those natural processes. you really should value, maintain and practice them, and know that when you feel like giving up, you're probably just about to learn something...

8 take risks
i don't know who's reading this stuff at this point, but i'm just gonna keep writing: take risks. extend yourself, and make it okay to fail. commit your energies to saving and sharing those things in this world that you truly value. keep things moving forward, and not just moving. want more! want better! push! put your heart on the line, have a pie in the sky dream, be visionary, get over yourself: whatever your version of risk taking is, take it! we only have so much time and only so many chances: let's make this the best life we can, k?"

Inaugural Address
By President Barack Hussein Obama

My fellow citizens: I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you've bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors.
I thank President Bush for his service to our nation as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often, the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we, the people, have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears and true to our founding documents.
So it has been; so it must be with this generation of Americans.
That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many -- and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable, but no less profound, is a sapping of confidence across our land; a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, that the next generation must lower its sights.
Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met. (Applause.)
On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation. But in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness. (Applause.)
In reaffirming the greatness of our nation we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted, for those that prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things -- some celebrated, but more often men and women obscure in their labor -- who have carried us up the long rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.
For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life. For us, they toiled in sweatshops, and settled the West, endured the lash of the whip, and plowed the hard earth. For us, they fought and died in places like Concord and Gettysburg, Normandy and Khe Sahn.
Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions, greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.
This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week, or last month, or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions -- that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America. (Applause.)
For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of our economy calls for action, bold and swift. And we will act, not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We'll restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. All this we will do.
Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions, who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short, for they have forgotten what this country has already done, what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage. What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them, that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.
The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.
Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched. But this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control. The nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity, on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart -- not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good. (Applause.)
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers -- (applause) -- our Founding Fathers, faced with perils that we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man -- a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience sake. (Applause.)
And so, to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born, know that America is a friend of each nation, and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity. And we are ready to lead once more. (Applause.)
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with the sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort, even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we'll work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet.
We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense. And for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken -- you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you. (Applause.)
For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.
To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. (Applause.)
To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist. (Applause.)
To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to the suffering outside our borders, nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.
As we consider the role that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who at this very hour patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages.
We honor them not only because they are the guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service -- a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves.
And yet at this moment, a moment that will define a generation, it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all. For as much as government can do, and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child that finally decides our fate.
Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends -- honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism -- these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history.
What is demanded, then, is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition on the part of every American that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world; duties that we do not grudgingly accept, but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task.
This is the price and the promise of citizenship. This is the source of our confidence -- the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny. This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed, why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall; and why a man whose father less than 60 years ago might not have been served in a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.
So let us mark this day with remembrance of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At the moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words to be read to the people:
"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."
America: In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

穿上最厚的大衣去买菜，JM还穿了秋裤，走在路上发现温度至少在十度以上！我把羽绒衣干脆脱掉了。JM一身都是汗，买完菜赶快坐street Car回来，要不又要生病了！

我的牙肿还没有消，JM 一大早一个人去赶集，买了一个honeywell加湿器，两只无线老鼠，一个MP3 Player，一条接speaker的缆线，现在到处都是电线，电视机成了电脑显示屏，living room 整个一Garage Studio!

这两天多伦多下大雪，气温不是很冷，但是风很大，雪粒还来不及落到地面，就被夹带着重新窜回天空, 看上去象烟，感觉象沙。下午去洗牙，一脚踩下去雪窝里出现深深的脚印，身后的痕迹马上就被风抹平了。
我的牙齿状况还是不好，下面的几颗前牙有中度牙周炎（牙袋深6mm左右），医生推荐去看牙周炎专科医生。过完节就去咨询一下。平时要加强口腔的清洁，牙齿掉了还不可怕，就希望不要造成细菌过度繁殖，往身体其它器官蔓延，我还没老呢，什么事情还没做成呢。
